Day 53 - A little piece of Germany

The Oktoberfest in Munich ended long ago - not in Beijing. Here the Oktoberfest will continue till the 26th. It is always hard to tell other people that the actual Oktoberfest starts in September - so, her4e in Beijing it has just started in October - just as everyone would assume.
The most popular German Restaurant and Bar is the "Paulaner" in the Lufthansa Center. And this is where they host the Beijing Oktoberfest as well.
One liter of "original" Oktoberfest beer is here more expensive than in Munich. 114 Yuan for one beer is indeed a lot - you can have eleven 0,4l drafts for that and go home with the metro, or you can have 57 half a liter bottled beer from one of the campus canteens... and than you don't need to go anywhere... (Good Chinese drinkers claim to drink 25 half a liter bottles within 3 hours - so the 57 bottles will take more like 7 hours... ;-))
Back to the Paulaner: the selection of food is very German - we had a meat plate with different sausages, Krustenbraten, Kasseler, Leberkäse and of course some mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. But, the amount was a little bit disapointing compared to what we paid for. Anyway, that fatty stuff felt us up and a basket of bread and little brezeln was includet.
The Oktoberfest tent is just next to the Paulaner and the Chinese go crazy when the - probably east European - girls start their performances there...

So, this was probably my most expensive evening here so far, but is was still fun. The atmosphere is good, it is funny to watch the Chinese waitresses in traditional German clothes and see the people go crazy about a Bavarian styled New Beetle... I wouldn't recommend it for one or two week visitors - except your employer pays, but for a little piece of Germany within 4 month it is a good choice.
