Taataa... the great opening ceremony for ... I don't know. Starting at 8:40 (So, I couldn't stay in bed indulging my new friend the jet lag.) all students were cooped up in one lecture hall. We had all to sit close to each other; allegedly for the picture, which was not taken at all in the end - if not secretly from one of the cameras, which are all over the Campus. In my corridor, in front of the lecture rooms, outside - everywhere. So ,I feel rather save here ;-)
After a couple of speeches (as me later was told , they should motivate and inspire us) one young police officer basically announced what would happen if we don't stick to Chinese laws and regulations. Punishment! Fines, Arrest, Fly back home! In that order. He was kind of boring and people laughed often after one teacher from the International Office translated with a smile. So, no drugs , fights and thievery here... Also watch out for the right taxi: It should have a "B" on the plate. And don't forget to get a receipt for everything! (Which is actually true as I can tell)
Conclusion: Besides my official Student ID, on which the photo is not officially ok (f***), this ceremony was total rubbish. But anyway - I listened to some Chinese and nearly got crazy...
To celebrate that whole happening I went with Sam to a restaurant to get a meal and a beer...
Certainly proud I am today on my accomplishment to change the wrong pad lock (I bought that for my closet) into a fitting one without speaking or showing any Chinese. Of cause nobody was talking English anyway. Yes!
Little story to end this post today: Today it was actually one of the ten days (per year) in Beijing were the weather was really good. But nevertheless a lots of people used umbrellas - especially girls. And this is why: Asian girls like to stay pale, because they don't want to look like gypsies. If they would expose their thin skin to the aggressive sun they would turn into really dark brown swarthies ;-) ... they probably don't call them gypsies here, but so what....And thats why!
No offense! Zai jian!
