Day eleven - Facts and names

Facts:

• Registration finishing today - didn't had to hand in anything...
• Chinese students don't party a lot - better: don't party at all...
  
• if you forget to turn off the AC before leaving you' ll freeze when you come back - even if the AC is on 20°C...

My new Chinese name: 拉尔斯 (Lā ěr sī)

There are two ways of forming a Chinese name. One is just to imitate the sound, just as with my name, the other one is to try to translate the meaning. This would often work with family names like e.g. Müller (Miller).
In general the Chinese first names have mostly just two characters for two syllables. But as it is hard to pronounce western names like that, the Chinese made western names sometimes have more characters - just like mine.
Here it is not necessary to translate the family name. The Chinese just need one name to put in their forms...
Also nice to know: The Chinese put first the family name and than the first name. For example Mao Zedong would be Mr Mao (not Mr Zedong).
You can try to find your own Chinese name here, although I would let one (speaking Chinese) check it before using. If your name is not in that database, try the different sounds of your name in other names. Its not about a direct translation, but about to come close to that. Also very helpful (not only in that context) is "google Translate", where you can recheck your name from Chinese to English.
